The LAN Settlement

Explained

The trial lawyers leading the litigation for the Flint Water Crisis cases claim that they are pursuing justice for the people of Flint, but their actions paint a much different story.

In November 2023, engineering consultant LAN announced a settlement of $8 million. In March 2024, it was revealed that the trial lawyers asked the judge to approve attorneys’ fees of $7.9 million out of the $8 million settlement, leaving victims with an astonishing 2% of the settlement.

Meanwhile, the lawyers continue to pursue VNA for even more money than the LAN settlement, despite the fact that LAN worked in Flint for 10+ years and was directly involved in the switch in water source, while VNA was hired to conduct a one-week assessment nearly a year into the crisis.

This is not about justice for Flint. This is about maximizing the lawyers’ profit by any means necessary, including lying about VNA’s work in the courtroom and the press.

The trial lawyers have already taken $200 million from the state settlement for themselves, and they just settled with LAN for $8 million, yet they are suing VNA for far more than that. This is not about justice for the people of Flint.
