Officials Ignore VNA Recommendations for Corrosion Control
VNA was hired to address, and told to focus on, TTHM issues. Despite that mandate, when VNA detected corrosive water that could result in lead issues in the future, the company brought the issue to the attention of City officials and made recommendations to address the issue.
- VNA asked for and was given the lead and copper testing in the City of Flint, which showed that the lead testing in the City of Flint were in compliance.
- VNA was not told of the adverse lead results in the possession of government officials. VNA made recommendations to City officials and plant staff that corrosion control should be implemented despite compliance with lead and copper monitoring.
- Almost all of VNA's recommendations and warnings to the City of Flint, with the exception of a GAC filter, were ignored and not implemented.
